Women in Film Mix & Mingle: Recap
On October 21st, 2023, the Light Leaks was out and about at the Proof of Concept festival powered by American Cinematheque in Culver City, CA. This event was a true celebration of creativity, passion for film, and supporting creators as they develop their proof of concept works. The Light Leaks co-hosted a "women in film mix & mingle" alongside the amazing Film Girlz Brunch, an LA-based org for femme folks in the industry.
Filmmakers filled the lobby of the Culver Theatre and connected over coffee, bagels, and a love of safe spaces for creatives. We were able to meet some very incredible women and nonbinary creators and even captured some of our conversations on video. These interviews share honest insights and advice from filmmakers to filmmakers.
This is the beauty of cultivating safe digital spaces. Online communities matter - these spaces have a direct impact in ‘real life’ to creating connections between complete strangers. Meeting our community in person is one of the most magical parts of the Light Leaks.
A few young BIPOC filmmakers say they found the event through TikTok or Instagram and felt compelled to attend because it was a safe space they could express themselves. And this is why we do what we do. <3
