4 Year Anniversary!
Today marks 4 years since the Light Leaks was created. This project of celebrating and supporting women and nonbinary filmmakers was founded on February 5th, 2017. It’s been a fantastic journey to build this community up over these years, and there’s not one moment we forget why we’re doing this - for the creators in our community.
A lot happened in our 4th year and it’s all thanks to you, our community. Here’s how this 4th year looked for us:
We interviewed 5 different female and GNC filmmakers!
We reached 100+ subscribers on Youtube!
We published 7 think pieces! These editorial pieces were mostly education based resources including: free pdfs on screenwriting and production, basic editing tutorials, and professional advice from feminist career strategist, Cynthia Pong.
We hosted 13 different Instagram Lives and Takeovers with creators across the country. From a free IG Live yoga class to a takeover with an award winning filmmaker, each of these takeovers were resources of education and inspo for our community.
We relaunched What We’re Watching with 3 new editions! What We’re Watching was previously named What She’s Watching and is meant to be a judgment free space to learn about new tv and film recommendations based on a theme. We rebranded this to be gender inclusive and also to best show the collaborative nature of the column.
We published 3 project spotlights celebrating rising women and nonbinary filmmakers.
We published 5 episodes of Dissecting the Scene, our series devoted to asking female and GNC directors, editors, showrunners, and DPs to break down the anatomy of why a scene was created the way it appears and how it was done.
We joined 2 Affiliate programs, Adobe and Soundstripe! We’re striving to reach the point to pay our lovely and hard working volunteer team. Affiliate links can help us reach these goals - so every-time you complete a purchase through our website, we’ll receive a commission that helps keep TLL moving forward!
We have a new resources page!
Now, as we have a volunteer team of 12 individuals, we’re able to plan so much more than we ever have before when our founder worked as a team of 1. Thank you for an incredible 4th year, here’s to many more!
Love,
The TLL Team
