The Light Leaks Community Turns Six!

On February 5th, 2023, we celebrate the sixth birthday of the Light Leaks, and our community dedicated to uplifting and supporting women and nonbinary filmmakers. Over the past six years, we have grown into a vibrant and inclusive community, filled with talented and creative individuals who are dedicated to sharing their stories and their art. 

To our amazing community of filmmakers, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you. Your passion, dedication, and creativity have made the Light Leaks what it is today. Our community is bonded because we all believe diversity matters and inclusion should never be an afterthought.

In this past year, we have accomplished so much together! We premiered three short films, published two Dissecting the Scene creator’s commentary videos, wrote twelve editorial pieces and interviews with established filmmakers, and even created 25 tiktoks! Definitely one of the proudest moments for the Light Leaks this year was when we received the news that we had won a $2k small business grant aimed at freelancing women. This grant has allowed us to continue our mission of empowering and supporting women and nonbinary filmmakers into 2023.

As we look to the future, we are filled with excitement and anticipation. It’s a whole new year and with that, there’s new opportunity to better serve our creators. With our mission of connection, inspiration and education, we’ll be bringing back live events, launching a podcast, creating a new tiktok series this year. Hang on tight and here's to the next year, filled with even more excitement, growth, and creativity!
