Glow Up: Recap
On Saturday, March 23, The Light Leaks hosted our biggest and brightest event to date: Glow Up, a panel and networking event at Lightbulb Grip & Electric Co. in Brooklyn, NYC. It was an absolutely packed house. Online tickets to guarantee a spot sold out leading up to the event, and we even had a standby line for unclaimed tickets and standing room only spots (!!!)
The Light Leaks exists to empower and educate women and gender non-conforming in film, and every aspect of Glow Up reflected that. The event kicked off with a panel moderated by our founder, Kim Hoyos. Panelists included Amanda Cowper, an award-winning director and producer and founder of The Belly; Adya Beasley, an Emmy-winning video producer and VP of digital media at Seaberry Design; Jazzmyn Cooker, a multidisciplinary artist, illustrator, and designer at Nickelodeon; and Chelsea Pineda, a photographer and senior video producer for INSIDER.
The discussion got super #real and addressed tough topics like navigating life and career transitions, combating imposter syndrome, and learning as you go. Our panelists—much like our attendees at Glow Up—come from a range of disciplines and technical backgrounds. However, we truly believe this event offered a little something for every creative, no matter how green or experienced they may be.

One key goal for The Light Leaks is to have each and every attendee at our events walk away knowing one new person and learning (at least) one new thing. The networking portion of Glow Up—following the panel, and featuring delicious desserts from woman-owned baking company Flour Power—made chatting and swapping deets with new folks easy and fun.
But wait, there’s more! Kim also compiled a fab raffle gift basket with more than $100 worth of gifts, including goodies from Skillshare, Pretty Thing Studios, Inkbox, High Brew Coffee, Ban.do, A Couple of Puns, For Womankind Project, Sky Ting Yoga, Rawly Bold, and Fluide Beauty.
