We’re opening up applications for creatives interested in working on GRAPHIC DESIGN, VIDEO EDITING, WRITING FOR OUR SITE / NEWSLETTER for the Light Leaks! Team volunteers work across the Light Leaks’ newsletter, social media, website, online shop, and small business strategy. If you want to pitch ideas, produce content, and work remotely and virtually with a team of other young creatives, keep reading!
Details:
Applicants must be 18+ and US based
This unpaid commitment, however students can receive college credit
Volunteer work is of a maximum of ~5 hours a week, with a monthly team meeting and check-ins via slack, work can be done on your schedule
Each role will have training and consistent support the current TLL team
Our team works with the following programs: airtable, google drive, slack, google calendar, google meet, email

We’re seeking multiple people to join in on each of the following areas:
Graphic designers: we’re seeking multiple graphic designers to join our team. illustrators and all design styles are welcome and animation skills are a plus! Designers will work on flyers, gifs, info graphics, lower thirds and title screens and other projects for TLL. This love language post is another example of the type of art we want to create regularly! Redesigning some of our submissions flyers is also one of our goals this summer.
Video Editors: we’re looking for multiple video editors who can consistently take on adapting our video content to make it exciting, accessible, and shareable. Motion graphics and titles animation is a plus! Editors will work on TLL’s youtube series content including Dissecting the Scene. This kind of 1x1 video is another example project!
Editorial / Newsletter - We’re looking for more internal writers to write for TLL’s newsletter and website. Writers would work with our current newsletter editor on our biweekly newsletter TLL Highlights but also have the chance to write think pieces, advice articles, and more for the website. In addition to writing, any writers interested can also hone editing skills by working with our freelance contributors.

How do I know if I should apply? What if I don’t have enough ‘experience’? If you’re interested in volunteering for a community focused small business that educates, supports, and empowers rising filmmakers while working on your own skills - def apply! Don’t doubt yourself, previous experience can include: school work, internship work, freelance projects, concept drafts, etc. Attach any examples and send any relevant linkstoo! There’s folks of all experience levels on the team.
What’s volunteering like? Volunteering for a steady volunteer role with the Light Leaks opens you up to collaborate with others, get more active in the film / tv industry, and grow your own portfolio! Each volunteer will work on projects aligned to the pod they’re working on (graphic design, video editing, etc) individually and in collaboration with others on the team. Brainstorms and other meetings will happen on google meet and otherwise slack is where we’ll connect.
Why is this a volunteer role? At the moment, the Light Leaks is completely funded by our Patreon account, our online store, and offline events, which have not occurred since Jan 2020 pre COVID. All revenue from TLL circulates back into paying for site costs and security, and written contributors. There’s no larger media backing behind TLL it is a passion project and small business working to strategize paid positions for all of the team.
